The Harvey House – Oak Park

December 31, 2007

harvey-house-1.jpgSurprisingly we got in before the Chicago Tribune names it the best bed and breakfast in the Chicago area. It is not hard to see why. Three rooms, all with jacuzzis with plenty of aromatheraphy products to sample.

Not much remains for the original 1895 house as it looks brand new.

Beth, the owner, has really done a great job of hosting a small bed and breakfast.

We loved the breakfast consist of a signature pop up pancake filled with fresh fruit. Beth made a surprise omelet for Janet and grilled potatoes for John.

John and Norma are the pleasant host at the Inn.

We were in the Chimney Room. A free upgrade!

The room has a nice double jacuzzi!

Breakfast was sausage, bacon, pancakes, fruit.

The room had a cd/dvd/dish which was easy to work.

We ate at the One Market Restaurant. Excellent prime rib, but where was the crowd?

A nice friend wine shop is just next door.

We toured the courthouse square which has the massive center courthouse. is the website. The bath!

This is located in Springfield IL.

The house is undergoing reconstruction on the outside.

Breakfast was fruit and yogurt, sausage.

The host Roger is enjoyable to talk with.

The house is filled with numerous radios. We stayed in the Champaign Room.

We went to Lincoln’s tomb during this visit.

Roger recommended the Chesapeake Seafood restaurant and it was packed with many locals who know the secret. Very good seafood. is the website.

The Branson House – Petersburg

December 5, 2007

This is located in the city of Petersburg.

Four rooms. We had the Ruthie Room as shown. Ruth’s room

It is driving distance to the Lincoln New Salem Historic site.  Bring your walking shoes since it is outside.

John and Norma are a great host who delighted with their efforts in remodeling the house.  They have an outside balcony where you can sit and relax in nice weather. Just watch your head! Breakfast was excellent with fruit, yogurt, sausage, potatoes, and pancakes

Bed was slightly noisy. The room is filled with antiques. One person shower in room we had.

We ate at George Warbruton at 18190 State Park road. Good food at a local pub.
