Goldmoor Inn, Galena IL

At $238 for the First Lady’s suite, it was all that would be expected in a deluxe B&B getaway. The Room came with huge jacuzzi, his and her bathroom mirrors, and lovely gas fireplace. The breakfast was a little disappointing in the canned tropical fruit cocktail to start. The Raspberry pancakes and ham with apple rings were delicious. The Inn built in 1993 overlooks the Mississippi River and provides a great sunset setting. The city of Galena is the reason many come to the area. It offers blocks of specialized shopping. We loved the Galena Canning with all the tasting of its many jams, sauces, salsas, and salad dressings.

The dinner at the Inn is a Prix fixe $65 and features cuisine by Master Chef Dion Block. His seven course meals are some of the best in the State. Website is
Appetizer was Bacon wrapped date with chorizo and agave nectar.
We had a cheese plate with 3 artisan cheese and fig chutney. The Mobay cheese was our favorite.
Soup was a celeriac with red cabbage micro and chive oil.
Sorbet was next. It was lemon drop with orange.
We both loved the salmon entree. Salad was avacado with pink grapefruit and micro veggies.
The dessert was a smooth almond mousse, with chocolate and cherry mousse.
The dinner took 2 1/2 hours and the portions are smaller, but they introduced us to tastes not elsewhere experienced.
Check in is a late 3pm. The room comes with a DVD/VHS player and Satellite TV. Heated towel rack and soft towels and robes are available.
